History of Censorship: In the 1990s, the Little House series became targeted by book banners. In 1993, parents of students in Thibodaux, LA, demanded the books be removed from the schools' shelves because they felt the books were offensive to Native Americans. In Sturgis, North Dakota, the books were banned from classrooms for the same reasons.
